Why the second one fails
A spark module is a sealed box that seldom fails on its own. When a range needs a second one, the circuit around it deserves the suspicion. A switch behind a knob that has taken on water can signal the module to fire when it should rest. A lead worn against the chassis, or a poor ground, asks it to push harder for every spark. Each of those survives a module swap untouched.
Damp kitchens and spills

Why would a new spark module fail within a couple of years?
Usually because the fault that ended the first one was never found. A switch holding the circuit on, a lead arcing to the chassis or a loose ground all strain a module.
